The Chicken Coop

I am a paper crafter. I've been playing with paper, and cutting and pasting for many years now and I still just love it. I teach classes each month and would love to have you.
You can find me at MyRedHen.blogspot.com and on Pinterest
or email me at MyRedHen4@yahoo.com
I'd love to hear from you.
Every now and then I have some cards or little treats available for sale that may be seen here.
My blog also contains my personal posts. Ignore them if you like, but you may get a kick out of them. Maybe my girls will read them one day and get insights into the inner workings of an old woman's brain....Scary Thought!
There is a list of labels on the right side of the blog, so you can click there to go to only the posts that you are interested in. That will allow you to skip the personal posts and any items for sale if you wish. No matter which way you choose, I hope will enjoy my little blog and visit often.

Home Party number One

Tomorrow I have finally been asked to do a Stampin Up Workshop in someone's home other than my own. I thought I'd give a little sneak peek of the two cards we will be making there to those of you who read my blog. If you like them, let me know and maybe we'll do them in one of my monthly classes.

Don't forget---Any of you too can invite some friends to get together for a party of your own. You have the chance to earn free and reduced price merchandise just for getting together with your friends an having a great time!

Trick or Treat

In honor of Halloween today's challenge asked me to write about what a trick or treater would have to do as a trick to actually frighten me,

That's an easy one. I don't frighten easily about most anything, but
I cannot stand being startled.

I can watch the scariest movies of all and not be bothered, but let me watch the cheesiest of all movies where something startles me and I will jump out of my skin. It's not just in the movies either. It's worse in real life. I HATE IT!! I absolutely refuse to go through the haunted houses they some set up at Halloween for this exact reason. I know they make then look creepy and all that, but it doesn't bother me. I know it's not real, so no big deal. They all however have more than I few parts where people jump out at you, and I will have none of that. One year my family threw a big Halloween party at our house and the kids and Michael turned our garage into a haunted house for the kids to go though. I would not even walk through that one to test it out. I knew my family was not to be trusted, so I stayed out.
Play a trick on me where you jump out unexpectedly and startle me, and you take your life in your hands. I will literally whale on you. I DO NOT find it funny. It 'bout gives me a heart attack and I am angry afterward until my heartbeat returns to something close to normal.

DO NOT decide that this provides you a great idea for a trick to pull on me, because I warn you---one of us may not come out of the prank alive.

You have been warned!

Happy Halloween!!

Happy Halloween to all of you! I hope you have all had a fabulous evening and that your kids brought home enough candy treats to have some to share with you. I have no more kids at home with me,
so I have NO candy. Color me sad:(

I had just had to share this picture of the family costumes that Megan came up with this year. Aren't they just the greatest?

My grand daughter Matilda was Mary Poppins and I think it was one of the best costumes she has worn in her eight long years. Unfortunately I didn't get a picture of her on my phone, so I don't have one to share with you right now. I've got to ask Tracy to send me one, and when she does, I will post it. The costume is worth you having a look. She was" practically perfect in every way". For now you'll have to settle for this cute little pic I found on the Internet.

Descent

Today's writing challenge posted this picture and challenged us to write our own personal story about a descent.

Maybe it's a perspective looking down, from the top of a beautiful circular staircase.
Or maybe the basement in your grandmother's house that frightened you as a child -- and even now, as an adult.

What this made me think of was actually a story of ascent, but I had to turn around and come down, so it's a story of descent as well.

It's the story of my last, and probably final, hike to Vernal Falls in Yosemite National Park. I have written about that already though, so I won't bore you. If you care to look it is my post on 9/15/14 entitled "Exercises"

Today they have me stepping into the house of an acquaintance for the first time, only to discover that everything -- from the furniture, to the books, to the art on the wall -- is identical to mine. They ask me what happens next?.

Wow! I'm about positive that no place else even comes close to being just like mine. No one else is quite as crazy about their living space as I am, but if it were to happen, this is what would happen next.

I would be amazed--mouth hanging open amazed--and then I would immediately quiz them on how they kept it clean. Especially the dusting! Please fill me in on how they keep all the knick knacks dusted. I sure hope they wouldn't tell me a housekeeper did it all for them. At least not unless they were willing to pay for that housekeeper to come and do mine as well.

Crazy Day

Yesterday was craft show number two for me. Unfortunately it wasn't nearly as successful as number one for me, but every little bit counts. The worst part was the tornado I had to load up the car in once it the show was over. It was probably the worst wind I've ever been subjected to. I swung by McDonald's to buy myself a soda before going home, and thenwhile trying to get out if the car, I spilt the thing all over myself and my car. What a mess! I finally got myself into the house, got myself cleaned  up and into my jammies to call it a day. I was all ready to disappear onto some TV and I got a call from Megan needing my immediate presence so that they could take Levi to the emergency room. Poor little guy was admitted, had to be subjected to tons of tests and is still there tonight as I write this post. I'm praying that he will be well enough to come home tomorrow. A big thank you to all of you who have been sending up prayers on his behalf. They are so appreciated.  We will see what tomorrow bring.

Imaginary Friend

The challenge they gave us today is to write about our imaginary friend from childhood and If we didn't have one, we are to write about a friend from childhood. I did not have an imaginary friend that I remember, but my oldest daughter Tracy did. His name was O-Ray and he was always into mischief. Any time Tracy was caught doing something she wasn't suppose to, it was that darn O-Ray that did it! There was one exception. Sometimes when she must have been feeling protective toward O-Ray,  it would turn out that a big gorilla came in the window and did it.

Apparently my home was often visited by creatures that I never saw.

As for me--I did have a childhood friend that got lost in the big move. Her name was Peggy Sue Murr and her backyard backed up to mine. There was a wooden fence between the yards which was too tall for us to see over, so when we weren't able to play together for some reason we would sit and chat through knot holes in the wood. After the move, I became REALLY inhibited, but at that time I was actually one of the more popular kids at school and I had a "boyfriend" named Gary Sigman. They are both lost in the fog of childhood memories now and I have no idea what became of them.

Horrors! I was checking my blog and realized that I haven't yet shared the Weekly Deals with all of you!

Bishop's Pumpkin Farm

Yesterday the kids and I squished into my vehicle with two car seats and headed off to Bishop's Pumpkin Farm. We had never been there before, but I had heard really good things about it from young moms in the area. What a fabulous place it is! It's a travesty that we haven't visited before now!
Cool bus/School bus. Get it! Tee Hee!

Don't forget to notice the cute little Punkin on the bottom right!
Landon had so much fun! What an absolute joy it was just to watch him. It amazes me how one little person can make your day spectacular, your mood joyous, and your life a happy one just by being his own little self. He played and played and played and then he played some more. If you are looking for a fall activity that your kids would enjoy, take time to go on a drive and spend the day there.

He went down this slide so many times that he became quite the pro.
We of course took the hayride out to the pumpkin fields to pick their pumpkin for this year's carving. Landon began by trying to pick one, but when they were too heavy for him to pick up, he was quite content to sit down in the red earth and collect rocks instead. He did finally get himself one when we pointed out some that were more his size. By the time we were done, he was absolutely filthy from head to toe.

This sweet little guy slept almost the entire day. Isn't he the sweetest in his little pumpkin hat?

Out of Breath

Today they have suggested writing about the busiest, most hectic day that I've had in the last decade.
Who remembers the last decade!!! Certainly not me, but I know I've had many busy, hectic days. They would include having a class to finish prepping for, kids to deal with, grand babies to watch, house to clean, items to pick up at the store, worship team practice to attend, dishes to do, a doctor's appointment, a shower to take, clothes to wash, emails to answer and send, and projects to complete for an upcoming craft show---All in one day! Okay, I  haven't really had a day like that, but Ive had some pretty hectic one. I'll bet we all have. How about you? Share one with us.

.
Lock the doors, turn off the phone, and stay in bed.
That's how!
