The Chicken Coop

I am a paper crafter. I've been playing with paper, and cutting and pasting for many years now and I still just love it. I teach classes each month and would love to have you.
You can find me at MyRedHen.blogspot.com and on Pinterest
or email me at MyRedHen4@yahoo.com
I'd love to hear from you.
Every now and then I have some cards or little treats available for sale that may be seen here.
My blog also contains my personal posts. Ignore them if you like, but you may get a kick out of them. Maybe my girls will read them one day and get insights into the inner workings of an old woman's brain....Scary Thought!
There is a list of labels on the right side of the blog, so you can click there to go to only the posts that you are interested in. That will allow you to skip the personal posts and any items for sale if you wish. No matter which way you choose, I hope will enjoy my little blog and visit often.

Technique Club

Yes, I've been very poor at keeping up on my blog. I was thinking about it tonight and thought I'd just quickly share a few of the cards I've done as samples for my Technique Club.

I've been really enjoying building my reference notebook of techniques.

Classes and Sales

I have realized that at the beginning of the new year I should have posted the info on the classes I teach. If interested you can sign up by contacting me by leaving me a message here in the comments or by email myredhen4@yahoo.com.

I have come to the beginning of a new year and at that time I like to get the information out there about my classes and crops so you know what's available.
At the end there is info on something new for this year.

I teach two classes each month.
First of all, I do what I call "Paper Pumpkin Club "
Stampin Up has a subscription program called Paper Pumpkin. For $22.50 each month you get a box with everything inside to create projects they have designed. It's usually cards, about 9 of them. You get full instructions and all the supplies need including an exclusive stamp set, a small square pad of one of their ink colors, and any adhesive or pop dots needed. In your very first kit you get a stamping block. You literally have everything you need to create your projects except scissors.
Now when I get my kit I come up with alternate projects using the kit and I have a group of ladies who bring their kit along with them to class snd we make the extra projects that I design. The class is $10 and includes the instruction plus any supplies that I have added to the kit to make my alternates.
The class is at 6pm on the second Wednesday of each month.
Hope that explains it well.

Secondly, I teach a class which I call my "Red Hen Roundup"
You sign up for this in rounds of four months each. For instance this first round will run from January thru April. You are then responsible for the whole round. If you are not able to come you still receive your kit and pictures of the cards we did in class.
In this class I teach five cards that I have designed and I occasionally also teach some little treats like you might use at Halloween or Christmas. You bring your monthly kit, yourself and your basic supplies. You will also receive a kit from me with any extra supplies you need for the cards I teach in class.
Again, if you are unable to come, you would receive your kit and pictures of each card.
This class is $25 per month and I teach both a daytime class at noon and a night class at 6pm both on the last Wednesday of each month.

Now, something new....

I am adding a Technique Club this year. This is designed to learn some new techniques and have a record of them that you can flip through for ideas when you're crafting.

At the end of each month you will receive from me, a card with a small example of the technique I'm teaching and written instructions on how to do it. In addition you will receive a link to a video I've made showing me making and explaining a card using the technique for that month.
I'm storing all of my cards in a binder with sleeves to hold the cards and I will have a catalog of ideas.
If you sign up by January 15th you will get a folder from me with the necessary pockets for one year of cards.
Sometimes in addition to the instruction card I will send a fully made card using the technique and I will leave it unsigned so its all ready for you to use. I also plan on often sending along some materials you might need to try the technique out.

This class is $12 per month and if you pay for the whole year up front I am making the price $125 which gives you nearly two months for free.

I also host weekend crops several times a year at Springhill Suites.

That's it for my classes but I did want to let you know that I plan on making a great effort on my blog this year so you might want to peek in and see if you might like following along. I plan on passing along some information, adding some stories and including cards and other crafting ideas.
I pretty much have no followers right now since I have completely neglected it but I'm trying to change that.

Hope to see a lot of you join me either by chatting or commenting here on my blog, in class, through online in Technique Club, or chatting ajustmy blog. I'd love to have you.

Now one more thing....
I will occasionally be offering things for sale here on my blog and for the most part the cards I share on the blog are available for sale. I'd you see one you'd like just give me a shout and it can be yours.

Paper Pumpkin Alternative

I finally came up with an alternative to this month's "So Cool" kit that I thought was worth sharing.

I used the negative strip from the included silver glitter shapes and three of the stickers we were given. I then added some cardstock, a strip of printed paper and a few embellishments and I had a slimline card that I really like.

I have a wonderful lady that hosts my nighttime card classes in her home and I gave it to her in our Paper Pumpkin Club meeting last night.

This should be enough inspiration for you to create your very own but if you want one exactly like this one I have a few little kits available. The kit is $3 and will come prestamped (The stamps I used were not SU stsmps) and will include everything I added beyond the Pumpkin kit as well as a short video to tell you how I put it together. If you want a kit with a different greeting than I used or want the greeting left blank, please let me know.

My Make-N-Take Valentines

Last week (I think it was last week 🤪)

I shared emailed out a Make-N-Take Monday making two valentine cards and I still had the negatives that remained after cutting out my hearts.

Well, if you know me you know that I couldn't just throw them away. They were still hanging around my desk this morning so I quickly turned them into cards.
I feel much better not having wasted a bit.
And ladies remember that I made these from scraps left over from other projects. I only added card bases.

I wish I had gotten myself together to do a Make-N-Take this week, but I didn't.
I'll get there.
In the meantime I thought this update would give you more creative ideas.

It's Our Day!!!

Ladies....Today is World Card Making Day, so even though I'm away from home, that's exactly what I'm doing.

Im working on this little lady for a punch art class when I return. She will soon have a lighter background, some clouds, and a husband and child will join her on other cards. Haven't done a full on punch art class in a while. It'll be fun. Be sure and shoot me a message if you are interested.

I hope today finds you all with time to play at least a bit with your card making supplies. Also don't forget to send at least one out. People love to receive them. In fact, I think I'll declare a Handmade Card Sending Day. I choose one week from today. Next Saturday. I even have a prize to give away. Send me a picture of the card you make and send and you will be entered.

Well, my little crows are calling so I'd best get back to work.

Have a fabulous day ladies!!

Feelin' Spooky?

Okay all my colorers!

I have been playing with products that I purchased last year at the Expo and decided that some of you might have fun with them as well.

These are my original samples and the first I have made for each. I have made them using stuff right out of my scraps so the ones you would be making might have some slight differences. I'm showing these because I'm going to offer the class very soon after I return so you will have them in plenty of time with them before Halloween. The dates and times will be decided depending on what works for all of you.

The class fee is going to be $19.50. It will include the crazy witch shoes and you will be making Frankie in two ways. One colored (on the right) and one paper pieced (on the left). The insides will be done and these are the slimline cards that are all the rage right now, so envelopes will be included with each one.

Let me know if you are interested and we will get this scheduled as soon as I return. Please give me times that would NOT work for you...day or night, to help me decide the whens and wheres.

Also, I'm working on a Christmas workshop that will be offered soon after, so keep that in mind. The projects can be used on cards or as beautiful Christmas ornaments.

I Guess I've Been Busy

Wow gals!!

I didn’t have room on my shelf for all the cards I made this month so I began to put them away and realized I had quite a pile  I decided to take pictures.

                   Check it Out!!

And believe it or not, this isn't all.

There were some I just made separately to finish things up or to take part in a challenge online.

All of these in the pictures here were generated from my classes in August.

                       Whew!!

I think I'm tired! But no time to sit on the couch. I still have more cards to make.

The month isn't over yet!

Okay...Let's see who's watching my blog. I have a little prize to give away. Let's see who can guess what my total comes to by the end of the month.

Whoever gets the closest wins!

Class To Go

Hello out there all my blog followers!

This is to fill you in on one of the classes I teach each month. It is called the "Red Hen Roundup"

I hold this class in rounds, so when you sign up you are committing to the entire round. They usually run for four months and that is the case with the next one that's coming up soon. It will begin in September and run through December. The class fee is $25 each month. You generally make six cards and we make a Christmas card each month to give us a headstart at the end of the year.

Up until now these classes have only been offered to my local gals but beginning with this round I have decided to offer them through the mail. Since COVID I have been filming videos for my ladies and since I'm going to continue doing them it opens up the possibility for those of you outside the area to join in. You would receive your kit in the mail by the middle of each month. All the die cutting and stamping would be done for you. You need only follow along on the video to put your cards together. Beginning next year I am going to charge $30 plus shipping per month for these kits to go, but to kick it off I'm offering it for the $25 price and only $3.50 for the shipping charge.

Let me know as soon as possible if you'd like to join in as it is very close to time for me to begin making the kits. I'll wet your whistle by showing this sneak peek of one of the cards we will be making in next month's class. Isn't it cute! And it is an interactive card since the koala actually swings back and forth.

Come  on and join the fun!

Visual Triangle

Hi All
I'm trying to take part in a challenge and this is my first assignment.
I was to create a card with a visual triangle. I think I've got one here that's a touch lopsided, but that counts. Even the hot air ballon is triangular shaped.
I used a stamp from The Cat's Pajamas #K-5838 CL, and the adorable plaid paper is from a 6X6 paper pad from My Favorite Things. I love every single piece of it!
Hint Sneak Peek....
The gals in my upcoming Red Hen Roundup class will be making the one with the clouds.

My next assignment is rainbows. I'll be posting that next

Polar Bear Pals

Today I thought I'd share another card we made in Red Hen Roundup class for May.
Aren't these guys just so cute?

I made them with the "Polar Bears Pals" stamp set (#BB-40 at mftstamps.com)
We do a at least one Christmas card every month and even though I didn't put Christmas sentiments on them this card was the Christmas for the month.
Just pop on a fitting sentiment and I think they would make a great Christmas card.

Envelope Slider

I used this fun die from ellenhutson.com
(Esentials by Ellen #EEDIEJ-037-16)
and a retired paper from Stampin Up
to make this Father's Day card for my
Red Hen Roundup Class this month.
I love the interactive part of the card.

Thanks Ellen!

Grab Bag Kits

Well all, I came up with an idea I'm going to try. I've been putting together some grab bag kits. This picture is of just a few that I  have finished.

In the process I eem to have created a monster. I was digging around to find some goodies to add to the kits and it has turned into one of my "purges"
Those of you who know me know what that looks like.
This home where I am barricaded alone has become a bit of a factory where I prep for classes, play with ideas, dig out things to use or sell, and film videos. Also where I am playing with new products, new ideas and new techniques. I'm even cooking! (Again, those of you who know me will know how unusual that is)
Mostly though, I'm making a mess.

I have opened up a store in my Square account in order for my class gals to order and pay for their kits during this crazy time and I am going to begin listing my kits there so be sure and take a look.
As I list them I will put links here on my blog.

Some of you knew that I'm  offering a cute box filled with goodies and how to enter. If you're unaware, here's a hint.
I LOVE for people to check out my blog but I don't know who they are if they don't leave a comment. (Hint hint)
I'm also filming videos in order to teach my classes during this time and I LOVE getting subscribers to my channel.

This is keeping me busy during this time of isolation but I'm some of this stuff is very new to me so I thank you in advance for your patience as I muddle through  I'll get better, I promise

I Scream You Scream

Ladies I'm checking in on the blog to see if anyone's trying to win my prize. so far the only way I've told you you could qualify to win is to comment here on my blog. I've started filling my pretty box and someone is going to win it.
You Paper Pumpkin Club ladies were the only ones I had told about the prize, bur that changes now. Here is a picture of how I turned my Pumpkin box into a cute gift box which is going to be given away to one of you. Enter to WIN!!
I finished designing the cards for April's Round Up class yesterday. I'm ahead of the game so if any of you need something creative to do, let me know and I will make the video and make you a kit.
The April class is the last one of this round and because I'm ahead I began working on the May class today. I finished something SO cute and I gave a little hint about it somewhere on this post. Do you see it? (That just might help with your prize entries)
That next Round is for four months again, May through August and beginning with that round the price will be going up to $25. I know things are wierd right now so I hope you won't shy away from joining me. We need to keep this virus from stealing our creative fun! Some new products and new techniques are going to be introduced during this next one.  I hope we will be back together soon but until then I'm going to continue making the videos and I hope to get better and better at it. Until I can get with Rae for some lessons I'm on my own.
Horrors!!

Shameful!!

Well, I titled this blog post Shameful because it is awful that it's March and this is the first post I have written so far this year.
Right now I'm homebound like the rest of the country. I must say, this is so strange to me. I have never seen anything like this happen here in our country. How fortunate we have been! And spoiled.

I'm istening to my radio while I work and one of the announcers said she will never again take a roll of toilet paper for granted. So true!! When this began I would not have expected toilet paper to be one of the items that would immediately disappear off the shelves.  I mentioned it to my checkout girl the other day and she said it no longer exists. Seems like it, but I finally was able to get some, along with a few other things that were hard to come across.
I'm set and I have spent the days solidly at my desk working, working and working some more. I'm preparing my classes as usual, but filming them instead of teaching them in person. I'm still very new at it but I think l my wonderful students will give me some grace. My Paper Pumpkin Club was the first one to go and I filmed it yesterday
So for this blog post I thought I'd post a picture of the cards and such that I have made from this month's kit..So far
I still have quite a bit more  supplies to use before I'm done. I really like this kit and the sentiments turned out to be so timely. So I'm going to pop this up there on the blog and get back to my desk and work, work, work some more.

New Class Offering

I have a new class to offer which is a bit different from the ones I usually teach.
I have gotten the supplies I was waiting for so it's time to open up signups. I'm going to be doing some wooden project classes. Hu
The first is a series of four seasonal collage frames for your home(would also be a great gift, but I'm keeping mine)
The first we will do is the winter one
 Followed by the spring
Eventually going on to summer and fall.

These pictures are of the company's samples. The ones you do WILL NOT be using the same papers.
The initial class will be a bit more expensive because it includes your initial frame

Mine is black but it is also a available in white.
The high quality frame has a metal backing allowing each piece to be added with very strong included magnets. Through the year you simply change the pieces.
The class will include some painting, but much of the work will be done by tracing the design of the pieces and gluing them to the wood. The sets start out like this.

I am going to teach this class in my home on Wednesday nights beginning with the first class on January 15th at 6pm when we will be making the winter set.
The price of that first class will be  $55. You will receive the frame in that class. The following classes will be $30.
When signing up you will be committing to four classes over the span of this year. You will be making winter, spring, summer,  and finally fall.
Throughout the year there will be optional classes offered to include holidays. Such as...

I'm inviting you to join me to create these fun decorative frames throughout the year, but let me know as soon as possible since I need time to order the wood products you will need.

Come visit me at MyRedHen.blogspot.com

Thomas the Turkey

Yesterday in class we made this turkey punch art.
I just love him!!
I haven't taught any punch art in quite some time. Some were thrilled to be doing it (thank you Linda), but some of the ladies thought I was crazy  I hope they weren't too overwhelmed by it cause we're doing some Christmas punch art in next months class.
I can hardly wait to make the sheperd I have planned!
He has legs BTW,
they just aren't in this picture

And speaking of turkeys, I saw this on the internet. I got a giggle. Maybe you will too.

Bone Appetit Alternatives

Some of my Paper Pumpkin ladies don't do Halloween or just don't need so many Halloween boxes, so I made a couple of mine into fall boxes as an alternative.

Precious Parcels

Hi All
Last night I taught a class in which we made all kinds of fun things with the Precious Parcel kit that was available as a free choice during Sale-A-Bration.
These are two of my finished projects. The little mailboxes are made from one of the card bases in the kit. Each one holds two decorated note cards with envelope and two ghirardelli chocolate squares. Aren't they sweet?

All four notecards are different,  but here's a pic of just one.

It's so much fun to think outside the box and use the pieces that come in the kits into something new and different. I got a whole lot out of this kit and still have bits and pieces to play with.
