The Chicken Coop

I am a paper crafter. I've been playing with paper, and cutting and pasting for many years now and I still just love it. I teach classes each month and would love to have you.
You can find me at MyRedHen.blogspot.com and on Pinterest
or email me at MyRedHen4@yahoo.com
I'd love to hear from you.
Every now and then I have some cards or little treats available for sale that may be seen here.
My blog also contains my personal posts. Ignore them if you like, but you may get a kick out of them. Maybe my girls will read them one day and get insights into the inner workings of an old woman's brain....Scary Thought!
There is a list of labels on the right side of the blog, so you can click there to go to only the posts that you are interested in. That will allow you to skip the personal posts and any items for sale if you wish. No matter which way you choose, I hope will enjoy my little blog and visit often.

Be Merry

Have you seen the ornaments in the Be Merry Kit. they are  (#144648 $19 for 12)?
That's only a touch over $1.50 each.  Six green and six red.
I love them and think they would also look beautiful decorating a Christmas package.

As you can see, they fit nicely in our new
                                                                                     Acetate Card Boxes (#144628 $6.50 for 10)
I've also embossed the front of the one with the green ornament with our new
Winter Wonder Embossing Folder (#144686 $7.50)
Also want to point out that you don't want to toss the little Christmas trees that pop out on the green ornament. They can totally be used on another project.
I used one to make a 3x3 card to fit in our new little 3x3 Whisper White Envelopes
                                                                                                   (#145829 $9 for 40)
using some scraps from the Year of Cheer Designer Series Paper (#144640 #13.00)
This will be perfect to add to the ornament in the box when I dress up the outside.
What a nice Christmas gift!

A Special Gift

I just finished this as a special gift for a very special friend.
Eight of our new Treat Tubes
                     (#144613 $5 for12)
fit perfectly into our new Acetate Card Boxes
                     (#144628 $6.59 for 10)
I've filled the tubes with all kinds of things to
add to hot chocolate or Christmas baking.
Then I decorated the box with our new
                      7/8" Striped Ribbon
                       (#144624 $5 for 5 yards)
                       Mini Ornaments
                       (#144626 $7.50 for 8)
                        Green Sprigs
                        (144627 $5 for 12)
Also, be sure to check out the front of the box. I have embossed it with our new Winter Wonder Embossing Folder (#144686 $7.50)
All of these supplies are available to order online on my website or you may contract me directly.
The current Hostess Code is #4MWKUBU
I have enough supplies to make a very few more if you would like to order one already made up.
There will only be a few so let me know quickly if you would like one.

Were you at Card Buffet??

Hi All

I'm finally getting my life back together after a CRAZY three and a half weeks.
During that time, one of the things I had going on was my third Card Buffet. We all had a great time, but
I was so busy and distracted that I forgot to take a single picture.

So...Instead of showing you pictures of the event itself, I thought I'd show you just two of the cards you missed creating if you didn't attend.

If you like them and the event sounds fun to you, I hope you'll consider coming to the next one which will be sometime in
                                                               January.
Watch for more info to come.

Hurricane Relief

This post is to let all of you know what Stampin Up is doing in an effort to help those hit by the devastating hurricanes.
If you are attending the Card Buffet and would like to make a donation, I will accept donations that day and forward them on to Stampin Up. If you are not signed up for the Buffet and would like to stop by, look at some samples of new product and make a donation, please feel free to drop in at 164 Hubbard Street, at Branches Community Church any time between 11am and 4pm.
You may also donate directly by following the link in this email.
This is purely voluntary on your part. I just wanted to get the word out there since it's a way to help and be able to double your donation. I can only imagine what these people are up against.

In This, We Make a Difference

SU_HurricaneRelief Along with many of you, we are watching with concern as stories unfold about the devastation left behind in Texas and Louisiana by Hurricane and Tropical Storm Harvey. Though no one knows how many lives have been affected, Harvey is said to be one of the worst natural disasters in U.S. history, and the damage caused by massive flooding will be felt for years to come.
With you, we’re also trying to stay informed on the progress of Hurricane Irma; as we write this, Irma has not yet made landfall but is currently classified as a catastrophic Category 5 storm. It will almost certainly leave as much destruction in its wake as Hurricane Harvey and will affect the lives of tens of thousands of people.
As a Stampin’ Up! family, we invite you to help us give to those who are now (or will soon be) trying to rebuild their lives. From now until the end of October, Stampin’ Up! will match donations made to the American Red Cross, dollar-for-dollar, for up to $50,000. Please click here to donate.
The Stampin’ Up! community is already making a difference through ongoing hurricane relief efforts. Here are some ways people are raising money.
  • Demonstrators are donating a portion of their commissions.
  • Demonstrators are holding dedicated events, including retired product sales, where all proceeds are being donated to hurricane relief.
  • Customers are being invited to donate at events.
  • Demonstrators are selling unused cards or are mounting past swaps on card bases and selling them (in accordance with the Angel Policy) to raise hurricane relief funds.
If you’re a Stampin’ Up! customer and would like to help, reach out to your demonstrator and see if they are holding any fundraising events you can be a part of, or click here to donate to the American Red Cross.
Together, we can do incredible things! We hope you’ll join us . . . because we truly can make a difference.

Card Buffet

Hi All

I'm deep into preparing kits for the upcoming Buffet on the 23rd of this month.
The giant bag shown in the picture here is full of prizes...and they are just the prizes for the crazy drawings! It is so full that I couldn't even squeeze that last one on the top into the bag....and I'm still working on a few more.
We're going to have so much fun!

Everyone signed up will automatically get one ticket for each drawing and those of you who signed up and paid before August 25th will get four more tickets for the crazy drawings. There will be more ways to earn extra tickets that day. You can earn an extra ticket for the regular drawing by bringing something for our church food bank. There are so many crazy prizes that I am going to also offer tickets for sale for those drawings. They will be $1 each or 6 for $5 and I will be adding that money to my churches offering box the next day to give them a little blessing for so kindly allowing me to hold these events there.

I am making a limited number of kits and at this point there are only 3 spots left, so if you've been on the fence about coming it's time to jump off....and to help you get going, the very first one who contacts me to take one of those 3 remaining spots will receive and extra two tickets for those crazy drawings.

Believe me, there is a lot of stuff in those crazy bags. once you open them up and find out what's inside, you can trade with each other, give stuff away, or keep some new treasures for your stash. There will also be a box for us to put anything that nobody wants, and all of that will be donated to The Continuuim here in Reno after the event. They offer an adult day care program specializing in care for adults living with Altzeimer's disease, Dementia, traumatic brain injuries, stroke recovery, Parkinson's disease, and M.S. The time away while they're busy there offers caregivers a much needed break. The things we give them will be help out with their craft supplies.

That's it...It's back to work for me!

Shake It Up Baby!

Today was the Hen Party for the month of August and we had a wonderful time.
We made the Happy Birthday shaker card shown here.
The monster cards are some of the other ones I made.
We used Silica Gel beads for an unusual way to make the insides of the shaker.
I got the brilliant idea from my friend Rae.
Two of my friends came who hadn't joined us before and we all made a brand new friend.
Welcome Lorraine!!
I ended up serving peach pie instead of the cherry muffins, but it was delicious so nobody minded.

Next month's Hen Party is On September 1st.
We will be making a card using a simple technique with an impressing result.
Some of you may have done this before, but I think you'll enjoy making the card...
And the food and the visiting....That's the best part!

Monday night is the drop in class with a theme of fruit and flowers.
I will make the cherry muffins for this class.
Promise....cross my heart.

Don't forget the Magic Fun Fold class coming up on August 17th.
These cards are really fun!

The drop in class is only $15 and the Magic Fun Fold class $20.
You need to sign up in advance for that one. It takes quite a bit preparation.

Yummy in My Tummy

Hi girls---
I finished these bags today. All of you who come to the Hen Party on Saturday will get to see them in real live person, but I just couldn't wait to share the cute little guys. I have now finished all of my projects using this set and the bags and the retired set will now be for sale.
The little monster bags are filled with 40 Hershey Kisses and are $10 each.
That's all of the bags I had, so I guess you could say they are limited edition. HA!

The stamp set is a retired one called "Yummy in My Tummy" Isn't the monster so cute?
I'm selling it for only $10. I also made shaker cards with those tummies. Those will be at the hen Party as well.

Speaking of shaker cards we will be making one on Saturday and learning a little something extra special while we're doing it. I'm making some yummy looking Cherry Muffins to share. I hope you'll come by.

Also, don't forget that the next Drop In Class is here at my house on Monday evening from 5pm through 8pm. The cards we're making have a fruity/flowery theme. I think you'll like them.
For that one I'm making something filled with fresh strawberries. (There may even be a few cherry muffins left over) Stop on by and join me!

Are You Ready?

Well girls, Are you ready for another Card Buffet?
Seems like it's coming up pretty fast, but the new Holiday Catalog will be live to you all on September 1st. It's my plan to do three Card Buffets a year....one to coincide with each new catalog. As a demonstrator I have been able to view it online and believe me, it's a good one!

                                       Save the Date!!
I have wiggled all around trying to decide the best date for this one and I've landed on September 23.
It will be held as before at Branches Community Church from 11am until 4pm.

More information and a flyer will follow, but I wanted to tell you some fun news now.
IN ADDITION...not in place of... the normal prizes, I have spent the last couple of weeks coming up with some kinda crazy ones to be held in separate drawings. You just never know what might be in these crazy things. Once you win them you are free to give things away, trade them with others, or just add them to your stash of treasures. Sound like fun? Everyone attending will receive a raffle ticket for both drawings and there will be some things along the way to earn extra tickets to the "Crazy Drawings"....
Starting right now!
The fee for the event is $25 and everyone who signs up and pays for the event by August 25th will get four..that's right, four extra tickets to the Crazy Drawings.
You will also receive two extra tickets for bringing someone who hasn't been before and she'll get one extra.

I hope you all will be able to join me for the fun and to get at look at all the great things Stampin' Up has come up with for our holiday creativity.

August Classes

Just came home from an enjoyable evening with my Paper Pumpkin Club ladies and thought I'd update you all on what's coming up next.

We will have our next Hen Party on August 5th. For only $5 you may drop in anytime between 11am and 2pm to join me for a fun project, something yummy to snack on, some coffee and best of all....relaxing conversation. We meet at Branches Community Church on the first Saturday of every month. please contact me if you need more info or to let me know you are coming. RSVPs are helpful, but not necessary. Please don't let the lack of one keep you from coming. This month we're going to make a shaker card and learn something fun in the process.

Immediately following that, the next drop in class here in my home will be on the evening of August 7th. in this class the theme will be fruits and flowers and I will be serving a strawberry themed dessert. I'm making it, so cross your fingers that it turns out yummy. The recipe looks delicious! The price for this class is only $15. You will make four cards and everyone will make a special strawberry treat to take home. Again...RSVPs are very helpful, but not required.

I have also added another class for August. I have had some fun lately making cards with "fun folds".
It has been a lot of fun so I'm going to share them with you. On August 17th I am holding a class in which we will be making a "waterfall" card, a "magic" card, a wonderful baby themed pop up card,  and a flap-over fun fold card. They are all so much fun. You'll want to make them over and over. The price of this class is $18 and I DO need RSVPs for this one. It requires a lot of prep work beforehand. Please let me know if you'd like to come and I will add you to the list. The location of the class will be announced when I know how many are coming.

Then all of my Paper Pumpkin Club ladies will finish up the month with our meeting on the 31st.

Drop In Class

Well, I held my first drop in class last night and we had a lovely time.
It's always so nice to get together with you ladies.
I was all ready for you when you arrived...

A big thank you to those of you who attended. I hope you had a good time and liked your manly-man cards.

The next drop in class will be held on August 7th from 5pm until 9pm.
If you know for sure you'll be coming an RSVP would be helpful, otherwise just pop by.
The theme for the cards this time will be fruits and flowers.
We will be making four cards and and each one of you will make a cute little strawberry treat to take home.

I will be serving something yummy (I hope) and homemade with strawberries to go along with our theme. I also provide bottled water. You are free to bring another beverage if you prefer.

Thursday, July 13, 2017

Ladies, if you find yourself in need of a masculine looking card or three,
I have an opportunity for you. I will be holding a drop in sort of class on the evening of
July 20th for only $12. You may drop in here at my home any time between 5pm and 8pm to make the three cards I have pictured here.

Inline image

I will have bottled water available and a little snack available.
If you need to come a bit earlier just let me know and we'll work it out.
Please contact me with any questions.

PS..Remember the Magic card I told you about? I'm now designing a couple of cards to go along with it and will be offering a similar opportunity to make those, so watch for that coming up soon.

Beautiful You #2

I was at my friend Rae's house and saw this project that she made with the Beautiful You stamp set. The frame is from a past Paper Pumpkin kit. I wanted to make one, but had already used my frame.
Then I thought that it would be a great idea for a Hen Party project so I went on a hunt for inexpensive white frames. Enter my funny story...

Here it is along with another quick tip.

Lastly I am posting these pictures of other Beautiful You projects that I have found online.
I have not made any of these, but wanted you to be able to see them.

This first card has our lady waking on a beach...beautiful.
The shadow she's waking on is also in the set.

In this one  by masking the images, two ladies are able to walk on the beach together.
More masking allows us to pair our ladies well with many other stamp sets.
In this next one the same lady is strolling in front of a line of trees made with the
Lovely As a Tree stamp set.
Next we are able to have her stroll down a street in the Mediterranean with the
Mediterranean Moments stamp set.
In this last one I wanted to show you that this lady's hand is positioned
in such a way that you can allow her to take her pet for a little stroll along with her. You could add a handbag as well. just put your thinking hat on and you'll come in with more great ideas.
Well these posts should give you all some great ideas to spark your creativity with this wonderful stamp set. Get out your supplies and come up with some of your own ideas.
It would be great if you would share them with me. I'd love to see what you all come up with.

The stamp set is on page 141 of your 2017-2018 catalog.
It is #143004 in wood mounted for $39 or #143637 in clear mount for $28
If you decide to order online I would really appreciate it if you would include my Hostess Code for the month of July. That code is ZWN6HN4F.

I think I've got the hang of this thing now so watch for more videos to come.
I will soon be offering some kits for sale, so be watching for those as well.

Beautiful You

Here you have a parade of great ideas for things you can do with the Beautiful You stamp set from Stampin Up.
And don't miss the handy tip!
Tomorrow as promised, I will show another idea with this stamp set and tell n a funny story on myself.
PS...There will be another great tip included in that video.

Hot or Not!

Well ladies, I made it a goal to get these videos filmed and be posting them regularly here on the blog. It is till my intention, but I am still fighting with the videos. Last week I filmed a very nice one on the many different ways you can use the "Beautiful You" stamp set which also included at least one little tip. Try as I might however, I have not been able to get it onto the blog. I'm still working on it, but thought I'd at least post SOMETHING here.

I returned yesterday from an eventful church camping to Lookout Campground in Dog Valley. I followed my GPS, got lost, and into an area where I was seriously off-roading. It damaged my car. I took it in to be checked out today and it is going to be $350 to fix it. OUCH!! So it turned out to be a pretty expensive little camping trip. It was saved in my eyes by being able to spend the entire weekend with this little guy.

I took this picture of him as everyone was up and loading everything on the last day.
Nothing roused him. When all of us had everything packed and ready to go, I had to wake him up to get him into the car. He was worn out, but he sure had a lot of fun!

Now I'm home and it is hot, but here I was with a bag full of potatoes that needed to be cooked.
Went to my faithful Pinterest and found a recipe. Here's the crazy part...
They were very yummy, but were cooked in the oven set at 500 degrees!
What was I thinking?
Anyway, my potatoes are delicious and I didn't waste them.
Guess what I'll be snacking on for the next few days.

Slow or Picky?

Hi All...
I've worked all day making samples for the next video I want to film. I thought I'd be filming it today, but I'm done in and I have two more cards to make. :(
I've  decided that I am either way too slow or way to picky....maybe both.
Anyway, I hope to post a video tomorrow showing lots of different ways to use the Beautiful You stamp set.
Here's the teaser....more tomorrow.

I'm Stuck :(

Hi All
Just thought I'd check in.
I have more video tips to film as promised, but at this time I'm stuck in the hospital..
Couple of days ago my ankle was kind of bugging me and by evening it was painful and swollen.
It was my intention to go to urgent care, but they were all closed, so my only option was to go to the emergency room. It was super busy and filled with people. I was there waiting for hours before I even got into a room. I was hoping at the time that I had just twisted it a bit and maybe they could wrap it up with an ace bandage and send me on my way. I just didn't want it to be broken and have to wear a boot.
It turned out way differently than expected.
At it turns out, it is cellulitis, an infection in the soft tissue, and could have even ended requiring surgery. They did an MRI to rule out an abscess and they aspirated it and are still running tests on it. I ended up being admitted to the hospital yesterday very early in the morning. After the aspiration the pain got better and the swelling went away so I was sure that they would be sending me home this morning, but when the doctor came in, he said they were waiting on the results from one of the tests and that if that's okay they will probably send me home tomorrow.

Good Grief!
A sore ankle puts me in the hospital for nearlyfour days?
Oh well, maybe the Lord decided that I needed to take a little break. :)

AT LAST!!!!

I am so very relieved and excited that I had to write a blog post about something that none of you will care about. Ever since opening my website...(MyRedHen.stampinup.net), I have been trying to get everything set up with the new addresses. I have had one problem after another and about 15 minutes ago, I finally figured out how to get it the way I want it. I'm over the moon happy!
Not only that...I spent a few hours yesterday getting instruction on how to get my videos filmed correctly and how to add them to my blog where they can actually be seen. I'm exhausted tonight, but tomorrow I'm going to give it a try. I plan to film videos with projects you can all try and to pass on some helpful tips whenever I find them. I already have some planned, so be on the lookout.
I'm going to enter this technical generation one way or another!

Many of you who have followed me for a while now have reached me with the email address snipnscrap@yahoo.com or even theredspeckledhen@yahoo.com.
bot of those will still get to me, so you don't need to change unless you want to.
The new email address going forward is TheRedHen@yahoo.com.
The blog address is now MyRedHen.blogspot.com and I can be found on Blogger, on Pinterest, and on Facebook under My Red Hen. I wanted to simplify the info so that everything didn't have to be spelled out in order to be understood.
My new website which is now open is MyRedHen.stampinup.net.
So come and join this ol' Red Hen and let's have some creative fun!

Love a Bargain!

Well now that I have opened my website, I need to get to work on it.
The button on the website will direct you right back here to my original blog.
Today I thought I'd show you a little card we created at a team meeting on Saturday. It shows a bit of the daisy suite coming in the new catalog. It's one of my favorites. You all should be receiving that new catalog in the mail and I can send in orders beginning June 1st.
In the picture I set the card in front of my latest bargain find. I stopped in at a rummage sale After the team meeting and got it for 50cents!

A Bit of Blarney

I've had a request for a punch art class and since I haven't done one in a very long time, I thought it was a great idea.
The class is this coming Thursday and I am prepping for it now.
Just finished this little guy this afternoon and thought I'd share it with all of you.
I think the class ladies will like him. He's awfully cute!

What do you think?

A Little Sparkle

Well, I'm not even going to try and excuse the fact that I've been WAY neglecting my blog.
Obviously the Christmas season must have done me in.

I return with a picture of a box I made with the new Window Box Thinlet dies.
I spent the day with my upline a couple of days ago and she had done one like this in red for Valentines Day.  I, of course, just had to have one and she was kind enough to let me cut one out.
I did mine up in pink so that it would be perfect for Easter or Mothers Day.

The box can be found on page 43 of the Occasions Catalog, and if you bundle it with the Wimdow Shopping stamp set on the same page, you can save 10% on both.
