The Chicken Coop

I am a paper crafter. I've been playing with paper, and cutting and pasting for many years now and I still just love it. I teach classes each month and would love to have you.
You can find me at MyRedHen.blogspot.com and on Pinterest
or email me at MyRedHen4@yahoo.com
I'd love to hear from you.
Every now and then I have some cards or little treats available for sale that may be seen here.
My blog also contains my personal posts. Ignore them if you like, but you may get a kick out of them. Maybe my girls will read them one day and get insights into the inner workings of an old woman's brain....Scary Thought!
There is a list of labels on the right side of the blog, so you can click there to go to only the posts that you are interested in. That will allow you to skip the personal posts and any items for sale if you wish. No matter which way you choose, I hope will enjoy my little blog and visit often.

Paper Pumpkin Alternative

I finally came up with an alternative to this month's "So Cool" kit that I thought was worth sharing.

I used the negative strip from the included silver glitter shapes and three of the stickers we were given. I then added some cardstock, a strip of printed paper and a few embellishments and I had a slimline card that I really like.

I have a wonderful lady that hosts my nighttime card classes in her home and I gave it to her in our Paper Pumpkin Club meeting last night.

This should be enough inspiration for you to create your very own but if you want one exactly like this one I have a few little kits available. The kit is $3 and will come prestamped (The stamps I used were not SU stsmps) and will include everything I added beyond the Pumpkin kit as well as a short video to tell you how I put it together. If you want a kit with a different greeting than I used or want the greeting left blank, please let me know.

I Guess I've Been Busy

Wow gals!!

I didn’t have room on my shelf for all the cards I made this month so I began to put them away and realized I had quite a pile  I decided to take pictures.

                   Check it Out!!

And believe it or not, this isn't all.

There were some I just made separately to finish things up or to take part in a challenge online.

All of these in the pictures here were generated from my classes in August.

                       Whew!!

I think I'm tired! But no time to sit on the couch. I still have more cards to make.

The month isn't over yet!

Okay...Let's see who's watching my blog. I have a little prize to give away. Let's see who can guess what my total comes to by the end of the month.

Whoever gets the closest wins!

I Scream You Scream

Ladies I'm checking in on the blog to see if anyone's trying to win my prize. so far the only way I've told you you could qualify to win is to comment here on my blog. I've started filling my pretty box and someone is going to win it.
You Paper Pumpkin Club ladies were the only ones I had told about the prize, bur that changes now. Here is a picture of how I turned my Pumpkin box into a cute gift box which is going to be given away to one of you. Enter to WIN!!
I finished designing the cards for April's Round Up class yesterday. I'm ahead of the game so if any of you need something creative to do, let me know and I will make the video and make you a kit.
The April class is the last one of this round and because I'm ahead I began working on the May class today. I finished something SO cute and I gave a little hint about it somewhere on this post. Do you see it? (That just might help with your prize entries)
That next Round is for four months again, May through August and beginning with that round the price will be going up to $25. I know things are wierd right now so I hope you won't shy away from joining me. We need to keep this virus from stealing our creative fun! Some new products and new techniques are going to be introduced during this next one.  I hope we will be back together soon but until then I'm going to continue making the videos and I hope to get better and better at it. Until I can get with Rae for some lessons I'm on my own.
Horrors!!

Shameful!!

Well, I titled this blog post Shameful because it is awful that it's March and this is the first post I have written so far this year.
Right now I'm homebound like the rest of the country. I must say, this is so strange to me. I have never seen anything like this happen here in our country. How fortunate we have been! And spoiled.

I'm istening to my radio while I work and one of the announcers said she will never again take a roll of toilet paper for granted. So true!! When this began I would not have expected toilet paper to be one of the items that would immediately disappear off the shelves.  I mentioned it to my checkout girl the other day and she said it no longer exists. Seems like it, but I finally was able to get some, along with a few other things that were hard to come across.
I'm set and I have spent the days solidly at my desk working, working and working some more. I'm preparing my classes as usual, but filming them instead of teaching them in person. I'm still very new at it but I think l my wonderful students will give me some grace. My Paper Pumpkin Club was the first one to go and I filmed it yesterday
So for this blog post I thought I'd post a picture of the cards and such that I have made from this month's kit..So far
I still have quite a bit more  supplies to use before I'm done. I really like this kit and the sentiments turned out to be so timely. So I'm going to pop this up there on the blog and get back to my desk and work, work, work some more.

Oh no!! Not again!!

Well, I said that last post would be the last Halloween one, but while working with the current Paper Pumpkin I looked down at the negative of the beautiful trees in our kit,  and what did I see? SPOOKY HALLOWEEN TREES!
So...I just had to make one more card.
I took the negative and mounted it in to black cardstock, added some pieces from last month's kit and this is what I came up with. Thought I'd share it in case any of you Paper Pumpkin people out there would want to put it together before you put those supplies away
Okay, now back to work on Christmas cards with lovely trees

Bone Appetit Alternatives

Some of my Paper Pumpkin ladies don't do Halloween or just don't need so many Halloween boxes, so I made a couple of mine into fall boxes as an alternative.

August Classes

Just came home from an enjoyable evening with my Paper Pumpkin Club ladies and thought I'd update you all on what's coming up next.

We will have our next Hen Party on August 5th. For only $5 you may drop in anytime between 11am and 2pm to join me for a fun project, something yummy to snack on, some coffee and best of all....relaxing conversation. We meet at Branches Community Church on the first Saturday of every month. please contact me if you need more info or to let me know you are coming. RSVPs are helpful, but not necessary. Please don't let the lack of one keep you from coming. This month we're going to make a shaker card and learn something fun in the process.

Immediately following that, the next drop in class here in my home will be on the evening of August 7th. in this class the theme will be fruits and flowers and I will be serving a strawberry themed dessert. I'm making it, so cross your fingers that it turns out yummy. The recipe looks delicious! The price for this class is only $15. You will make four cards and everyone will make a special strawberry treat to take home. Again...RSVPs are very helpful, but not required.

I have also added another class for August. I have had some fun lately making cards with "fun folds".
It has been a lot of fun so I'm going to share them with you. On August 17th I am holding a class in which we will be making a "waterfall" card, a "magic" card, a wonderful baby themed pop up card,  and a flap-over fun fold card. They are all so much fun. You'll want to make them over and over. The price of this class is $18 and I DO need RSVPs for this one. It requires a lot of prep work beforehand. Please let me know if you'd like to come and I will add you to the list. The location of the class will be announced when I know how many are coming.

Then all of my Paper Pumpkin Club ladies will finish up the month with our meeting on the 31st.

She Lives!

We'll doggone it!
I was doing so well keeping up with my postings. Then My First big event happened  (It was a success by the way, and I will share more later), life got hectic and I got sick. Apparently I somehow contracted the nurovirus. It was absolutely awful, but I'm on the mend now.
I have several things I want to post about, but for now I will just post this wonderful story that Stampin Up recently shared with us.  I found it quite heartwarming. Maybe you will too.

Inspire
Paper Pumpkin in Unexpected Places
Paper Pumpkin in Unexpected Places
Several years ago, demonstrator Cheryl Hamilton brought some stamping supplies over to her mother-in-law’s house so the family could have some fun crafting. Her mother-in-law wasn’t interested and the supplies sat on the table for a few days until her nephew came to visit. Cheryl asked Abe, who has Down syndrome, if he’d like to make a card from her Paper Pumpkin kit. He dove right in and he didn’t stop until the entire kit was complete! He’s been hooked on Paper Pumpkin ever since.
His mom, Vicki, shares that, “Abe loves art and has always liked art classes. Because he is challenged in the area of fine motor skills, he would often get discouraged with his results. But when he started getting Paper Pumpkin, he was so proud of the great cards and crafts he could turn out! Paper Pumpkin is so foolproof and the results are guaranteed to be beautiful. So, he feels so successful and can't wait to get the next box!”
Cheryl says an unexpected bonus is she’s grown closer to her nephew because of Paper Pumpkin even though she lives in Hawaii and he in New Mexico. They send pictures and comments to each other on Facebook every month after the new kit comes out. She’s had some of her fellow demonstrators send him cards for his birthday, as well. What did he have to say about that? Pretty much what we all think: “It does make my heart feel so happy to get cards in the mail.”

Pretty cool, right?
Those of us who are part of Paper Pumpkin have so much fun with it, but with the great instructions and the supplies all included it makes a great box full of monthly fun for everyone, from beginners to experienced paper crafters.

One of the things I love about this company is their efforts to support charities and it is a bonus to know that the little Paper Pumpkin boxes are reaching out to people all on their own.

Try, Try, Again

Well ladies...
As promised,  I'm going to start using my blog again. I don't know how well I will do and I cant promise that I will write every day, but I'm willing to give it a shot. I've tried to find the daily prompts that I used before, but I don't think I've found the right one. I did find one that might work for me, but I sure wish I knew what the other one was.
The one thing I have decided to definitely post will be pictures of what I end up making with the Paper Pumpkin kits. I may try to post the pictures of the cards we do in other classes, but no promises.
I'm working on this months kit right now, so pics will follow.

March and Spring are nearly here!

Well, my goodness! February sure has raced by quickly! Only one more class remaining!
This Thursday we will be meeting for our February Paper Pumpkin Club meeting at Linda Wainscoat's house at 6 pm. I'm hoping to see all of my wonderful club members there.

That means it's time to announce the class dates for March.

The Stampin Up Workshop will be held on March 5th at my house. This workshop is $10 and this month you will get a chance to play with the beautiful Lotus Blossom stamp set that is available for free during SaleABration with any $50 order. I can't believe how easy it is to get a beautiful shaded effect with this set.

Name tag ideas - using the Stampin Up SAB Lotus Blossom set and the Bow Builder punch

Next, on March 19th I will hold my monthly $20 Card Class. It will be time to get those Easter/Springtime cards and treats ready for our giving.

And finally, on March 26th we will again be holding our monthly meeting of the Paper Pumpkin Club. I can't wait to see what we get next! I don't know about all of you, but I'm really enjoying receiving a little surprise in my mail box each month.

Hope to see some of you for these March classes. Be sure and contact me to sign up so that I will have a kit all prepped and ready for you.

Spring is on its way!  Tonna

January Class Dates

I am going to have one less class for the month of January since I ended up having a rather eventful holiday season..

To kick it off I went to spend the night at my daughter's house so that I could watch Landon open his gifts on Christmas. (He's two. Who wouldn't want to be there for that!) I was going back out to my car to get my gifts and both my feet slipped from under me and I landed flat on my back on the icy concrete driveway, and my head took quite a pounding on cement.
Once I was able to get up and had gotten inside to get my bearings I went back out stocking feet so I wouldn't slip again. I ended up with a headache that would come and go, but I thought I was okay. It was the same the next morning, but as the day went on the headache got worse and became constant. I was supposed to go to a friend's house for Christmas dinner. The kids left for dinner elsewhere and although I was supposed to go to a friend's house for dinner, I just had to lie down a bit. The headache continued to worsen and I began to feel kind of disoriented. Everything kind of looked and kind of felt like a dream. Eventually I felt like maybe I should check to make sure everything was okay, but I was there alone and certainly didn't want to drive in my dreamlike state, so I called the nurse hot line. They asked me a bunch of questions and told me that I needed to get in to the ER. Luckily the kids came home while I was on the phone with them, cause they were going to send an ambulance! Megan took me and dropped me off at Emergency. So here I was sitting alone in the ER in my pajamas on Christmas. This is NOT how I recommend any of you spend your holiday!

Once I got in they poked me everywhere like a pincushion trying to start an IV.  I have bad veins so all this trouble was not foreign to me, but they even tried a spot near my right breast! That was a new one for me! Another finally had to come in to do it and she ended up getting it on my leg. Also a new one for me. They finally gave me something for the pain and rolled me in to have a CAT scan done. That revealed that I did not have a fracture and there was no bleeding. I just had a pretty severe concussion. Megan returned to pick me up around midnight I think, and that finalized my Christmas day.
The next day I got myself to the pharmacy for the pain pill prescription and then home to land on my own couch. There I remained in pain pill oblivion, then just as I began to get better I found that I  had caught Landon's bad cold. To make an already very long story a bit shorter--I was not able to leave the house again until Saturday. Today I will actually get back to church. I missed a lot including a New Year's party at church. NOT HAPPY!

So... I got a bit behind in my class preparation. To help me catch up I am going to combine my regular card class and my Stampin Up workshop into just one class. That class will be on
Thursday January 15th at 6pm and the fee is $20
Our Paper Pumpkin Club for January will be held on the 29th at 6pm. The fee is only $5, but you do have to be a Paper Pumpkin subscriber to attend,
Then hopefully all my drama will be over and February will get back to normal.

Drop me a line if you would like to attend either of these classes ASAP since I am working on those kits now.

Happy New Year to you all. I hope that your holiday season has been a little less crazy than mine was.
