Second Hand

Okay I am aware that this image has absolutely nothing to do with this title and what's worse it will have nothing to do with the post itself either. My start page when I go on line has a new cute image showing everyday. This was the one for today. I thought it was so cute and it reminded me of Megan in her high school cheerleading days, so extreme dork that I am, I just had to copy it. 

Turns out they added the picture because at the University of Minnesota Johnny Campbell directed a crowd in cheering "Rah, Rah, Rah! Ski-u-mah, Hoo-Rah! Hoo-Rah! Varsity! Varsity! Varsity, Minn-e-So-Tah!", making Campbell the very first cheerleader and November 2, 1898 the official birth of organized cheerleading.

                                                            There you have it. A tidbit of random knowledge you can store up in your brain. Maybe you can use it as small talk at your next party.      

                                   

Now on to my actual post--

The title of my daily challenge is "Second-Hand Stories" and the instruction reads:

What's the best story someone else has recently told you (in person, preferably)? Share it with us, and feel free to embellish -- that's how good stories become great, after all.

I got totally excited when I read the title, cause all I saw was SECOND HAND.

Most anyone who knows me knows that I LOVE the second-hand stores. Saver's is my department store and where almost everything I wear originates. Is that too much sharing? Now will you all be looking at my wardrobe and thinking "How tacky!" It's okay. I just have to go with what feels right to me and what my pocketbook thinks is acceptable. I used to love to take a day and travel around to different thrift stores and look for treasures, but my pocketbook and my time clock have not been allowing it. Plus, it's not as much fun to do alone. You need a gal pal along for it to be the best. (As long as she doesn't nab the best find before you see it) I also love to hit garage sales, but again I don't like it as much to go alone. Plus I must admit that I don't enjoy getting up early enough to get the best stuff. If I have plans to go with someone, that problem is solved however. If that's the case, I hop right up and get ready to go. Strange I know, but if you've been reading a while and haven't yet figured out that I'm a bit strange, you may be as strange as I am.

I will follow post instructions as well though, and tell you a second-hand story I heard just yesterday about a second-hand find. I was flabbergasted and more than a little envious to learn of a lady who was at the Stampin Up party I did yesterday who purchased a Big Shot die cutting machine at the Goodwill for $3.88!! Unheard of!! I was GREEN with envy! There was something else she got for an unbelievable price, but I have already forgotten what it was. I guess I was just fixated on the Bog Shot thing. Moral of the story--Maybe I need to spend some time visiting more thrift stores, and maybe I should get myself out of bed on Saturday mornings and hit some garage sales when I can. Even if I have to go by myself.

Set the Pace

This was my challenge today---

If you could slow down an action that usually zooms by, or speed up an event that normally drags on, which would you choose, and why?

The answer to this one is easy for me. I would slow down our childhood. We have our precious babies, and if we look away for more than a minute, they have grown up and are starting school. Our babies should stay babies for longer. It goes by way too fast. In fact our entire youth goes by way too fast as far as I'm concerned. We get to be young for such a short time compared to how long we are old. If only we understood that when we were young, I don't think we would waste so much of our precious time. As young mothers, I know we would spend a ton more time just adoring our little ones if we only knew how quickly the time would pass.

If I had chosen the other option, I'm not sure what event I would speed up, but I think I would definitely speed up the time between paydays. I think we would all have a much easier time if those paychecks came in on a weekly basis---Don't you agree? 

 

Home Party number One

Tomorrow I have finally been asked to do a Stampin Up Workshop in someone's home other than my own. I thought I'd give a little sneak peek of the two cards we will be making there to those of you who read my blog. If you like them, let me know and maybe we'll do them in one of my monthly classes.

Trick or Treat

In honor of Halloween today's challenge asked me to write about what a trick or treater would have to do as a trick to actually frighten me,

That's an easy one. I don't frighten easily about most anything, but 
I cannot stand being startled.

I can watch the scariest movies of all and not be bothered, but let me watch the cheesiest of all movies where something startles me and I will jump out of my skin. It's not just in the movies either. It's worse in real life. I HATE IT!! I absolutely refuse to go through the haunted houses they some set up at Halloween for this exact reason. I know they make then look creepy and all that, but it doesn't bother me. I know it's not real, so no big deal. They all however have more than I few parts where people jump out at you, and I will have none of that. One year my family threw a big Halloween party at our house and the kids and Michael turned our garage into a haunted house for the kids to go though. I would not even walk through that one to test it out. I knew my family was not to be trusted, so I stayed out.
Play a trick on me where you jump out unexpectedly and startle me, and you take your life in your hands. I will literally whale on you. I DO NOT find it funny. It 'bout gives me a heart attack and I am angry afterward until my heartbeat returns to something close to normal.

DO NOT decide that this provides you a great idea for a trick to pull on me, because I warn you---one of us may not come out of the prank alive.

Happy Halloween!!

Happy Halloween to all of you! I hope you have all had a fabulous evening and that your kids brought home enough candy treats to have some to share with you. I have no more kids at home with me, 

so I have NO candy. Color me sad:(

 I had just had to share this picture of the family costumes that Megan came up with this year. Aren't they just the greatest?

My grand daughter Matilda was Mary Poppins and I think it was one of the best costumes she has worn in her eight long years. Unfortunately I didn't get a picture of her on my phone, so I don't have one to share with you right now. I've got to ask Tracy to send me one, and when she does, I will post it. The costume is worth you having a look.She was" practically perfect in every way". For now you'll have to settle for this cute little pic I found on the Internet.
