The Chicken Coop

I am a paper crafter. I've been playing with paper, and cutting and pasting for many years now and I still just love it. I teach classes each month and would love to have you.
You can find me at MyRedHen.blogspot.com and on Pinterest
or email me at MyRedHen4@yahoo.com
I'd love to hear from you.
Every now and then I have some cards or little treats available for sale that may be seen here.
My blog also contains my personal posts. Ignore them if you like, but you may get a kick out of them. Maybe my girls will read them one day and get insights into the inner workings of an old woman's brain....Scary Thought!
There is a list of labels on the right side of the blog, so you can click there to go to only the posts that you are interested in. That will allow you to skip the personal posts and any items for sale if you wish. No matter which way you choose, I hope will enjoy my little blog and visit often.

Hamburger Day!!

This morning I realized that I have been                    neglecting my poor blog.
And I was doing so well!
What can I say. I finally got to see my grandbabies complete with hugs, cuddles and sleep overs and I lost thought of anything else
 It had been months!!
I had been deprived way too long and I'm glad the grandbaby drought is over.
Now...
I'm back today to report that today is
National Hamburger Day.
I do love myself a good burger!

I made a few little sliders last night and have a couple waiting in the frig to heat  up. I was thinking that they would be perfect to celebrate the day. Then I started looking a photos to add here and they look mighty tasty.
We'll see if my practical and frugal side will win out.
If Steak and Shake or Five Guys start calling to me I may fold.
Those are my two favorites
What are yours?
I'd love to know. Maybe a new burger might join the chorus in my head.

Burger anyone?
Yes please.
Barbecue sauce, grilled onions, and cheese please.

Over the Rainbow

Hi All
I am SO TIRED of this wind!!
I've decided that I'm closing all my blinds in protest so I can try to get some work done without seeing it.
If it keeps up I hope to see you all on the other side.
I'll wait for you in Munchkin Land.

Hey, if I can picture myself in the Land of Oz, I can sure pretend it's not windy, right?

Polar Bear Pals

Today I thought I'd share another card we made in Red Hen Roundup class for May.
Aren't these guys just so cute?

I made them with the "Polar Bears Pals" stamp set (#BB-40 at mftstamps.com)
We do a at least one Christmas card every month and even though I didn't put Christmas sentiments on them this card was the Christmas for the month.
Just pop on a fitting sentiment and I think they would make a great Christmas card.

Envelope Slider

I used this fun die from ellenhutson.com
(Esentials by Ellen #EEDIEJ-037-16)
and a retired paper from Stampin Up
to make this Father's Day card for my
Red Hen Roundup Class this month.
I love the interactive part of the card.

Thanks Ellen!

A Happy Mother's Day!!

I hope you all had a Mother's Day that was made special for you in some way. I myself could not have asked for a better gift than the one I got.
Since COVID19 I have missed my grandbabies terribly. Occasionally the family would pull up to the curb outside my gate to visit from the car. You can see pictures like that from my birthday post. Yesterday in the afternoon I got an text from Megan asking if I would like to have dinner with the boys. OF COURSE I WOULD!! That evening they all went to In and Out for burgers and brought it along with a blanket and chairs to have a picnic out in the yard. It was the first time the kids had even been inside the gate for months. I got to enjoy their company and watch two crazy boys run and play like two crazy boys. And Lyla...what a doll! You can see in the pictures that I had my hands clasped in my lap. I clutched them tightly there the whole time to keep from reaching out to her. Especially when she began crawling over to my chair and pulling herself up to me. I talked to her and enjoyed her smile but kept my hands off. It seemed to me as if she was wondering "Why doesn't my grandma pick me up and play with me?" Believe me my darlin' I wanted to. We even got close enough to briefly take these pictures.

So while my Mother's Day did not include hugs and hands on play, it was a start and I enjoyed every minute of it.

Pepper the Hedgehog

You know how you wake up in the morning, stretch, and mentally check on what's on your schedule for today? I must confess that lately it's been out of the ordinary for me to even know what day it is.
But today...

I happened across this yvideo on YouTube. This person has truly found a unique way to fill their time (and their living room).
Meet Pepper the Hedgehog.

https://youtu.be/FWrx7ZMKa2w

Amazing right?

This is course number 5 and apparently her course continues to grow as quarantine time continues.

She has picked up a big following and I believe is selling tshirts.

I love her!!

P.S. I labeled this post under Important Info as well as under My Life because...well because it's just an important quarantine event. 😁

P.S.S I wasn't even aware that you could own a hedgehog as a pet.
Now I want one. 🙂

P.S.S. Before I close I just have to include a quick shot of the view above my work desk as I work today. Lovely

New Neighbor/Bunny Update

I had been a bit worried about my bunny as I hadn't seen him in a while, but when I came back from buying my tacos yesterday there he was lounging in the shade right near the gate.
I rewarded his return with a carrot and I'm sure he was thankful. This virus thing is making me a little crazy and I chat with him as if he understands. Today I was telling him that he's going to get chubby. He just sits in the yard and gobbles away   at the grass...and of course the occasional carrot. I spend my days here alone at my desk looking  out my window to the world and enjoying the view.
Today a new neighbor visited the yard.
A little squirrel was out there munching on something. And if course there are the birds. I love to watch them flitting around. That side of my house looks out only on the yard. You can't see the street at all. It is so peaceful and calming. There is so little traffic during this stay at home order that even the side of the house that faces the street is quiet and peaceful. There will be plenty of noise when the boys can visit again, but for now there is quiet. I'm sitting out there now as I write this enjoying the sunshine, the cool breeze and my flowers. This home is an incredible blessing.

New Online Class

Today I announced my next little virtual class.
Just something to keep us busy and happy.
It's only ten dollars and includes everything to make these four cards plus a bunch of extra matching pieces to create with.

Once you purchase the kit one of my fabulous videos will go out with you with step by step instructions.

HUGE Thankfulness

Today is National Nurses Day and I think that you would all agree that they deserve our thanks more than ever before. I myself am overwhelmed by their dedication in the face of this pandemic. It's not only what they deal with during their grueling twelve hour shifts, but also the emotional toll this is taking on them and their concern about going home to their families.
So to any of you out there that are nurses..
THANK YOU!

Ole!!

Happy Cinco de Mayo everyone!
This year Cinco de Mayo and Taco Tuesday fell on the same day so guess what I had for dinner. I should have made them myself but I did not. I ran to Jimboy's Tacos for a couple of my favorites.
Did any of you do something fun to make the day special?
Nothing else to report.
Just wanted to send out some happy wishes, so that's a big
ADIOS! from me.

Gratefulness

I am so aware these days of all the things we DO have during this time. I think there are so many things we will no longer take for granted when this is over.
Just being able to be with my grandbabies.
To go to church and be with my wonderful church family.
To be able to visit and spend time with family and friends.
To have a pleasant home in which to spend this time.
To have work for my busy hands to do.
To have a place to shop and the ability to go there.
Goodness....
Even toilet paper!
I am now aware of how easily and swiftly these things could go away.
I sit here as I write this post in front of the window that is my world view as I work.
Green grass, trees full of leaves and spring blooms and the bunny rabbit bunny I wrote about earlier now visits every day. watch him each day munching up some grass for dinner.
I looked up just a moment ago from my writing and there he was, just sitting up straight and alert at the edge of the shed. I was going to snap a picture but I missed it. So this afternoon I feel a heart full of gratefulness for the window my Lord has placed me in front of that brings a calm and peacefulness as I sit here each day doing something I enjoy.

So today I am grateful for all of these things and also grateful to each of you.
Thank you so much for your support and friendship.

May the 4th be with you

Well, today is National Star Wars Day.
The rise of these movies began in 1977 and their popularity continues today.
If you have Disney + i they will be streaming all nine films today.
That ought to fill up an afternoon!
Google has listed 24 other ways to celebrate on this day if you need some suggestions.

I am going to try to finish and kit the pieces for the space card I am trying to add to this month's Round Up class. I began yesterday and then couldn't find my oval dies. So that led to a long search with no results  I just HAVE GOT to find them! Also missing are my stitched shape dies. I don't know how I do these things but I wish I'd stop.
I posted these pictures a few days ago of the cards I made for my grand son's birthdays coming up in August and September (Yes I am a little ahead of the game), but I thought I'd post them again in honor of the day. The one I'm doing for class is very similar.

Here's another I am almost done with.

I'm hoping that Star Wars Day will bless me with the locating of my dies. In the meantime I'm going to busy myself with other things until they magically appear.

So...live long and prosper, na-nu na-nu, or what ever space age greeting fits.
