The Chicken Coop

I am a paper crafter. I've been playing with paper, and cutting and pasting for many years now and I still just love it. I teach classes each month and would love to have you.
You can find me at MyRedHen.blogspot.com and on Pinterest
or email me at MyRedHen4@yahoo.com
I'd love to hear from you.
Every now and then I have some cards or little treats available for sale that may be seen here.
My blog also contains my personal posts. Ignore them if you like, but you may get a kick out of them. Maybe my girls will read them one day and get insights into the inner workings of an old woman's brain....Scary Thought!
There is a list of labels on the right side of the blog, so you can click there to go to only the posts that you are interested in. That will allow you to skip the personal posts and any items for sale if you wish. No matter which way you choose, I hope will enjoy my little blog and visit often.

Be Merry

Have you seen the ornaments in the Be Merry Kit. they are  (#144648 $19 for 12)?
That's only a touch over $1.50 each.  Six green and six red.
I love them and think they would also look beautiful decorating a Christmas package.

As you can see, they fit nicely in our new
                                                                                     Acetate Card Boxes (#144628 $6.50 for 10)
I've also embossed the front of the one with the green ornament with our new
Winter Wonder Embossing Folder (#144686 $7.50)
Also want to point out that you don't want to toss the little Christmas trees that pop out on the green ornament. They can totally be used on another project.
I used one to make a 3x3 card to fit in our new little 3x3 Whisper White Envelopes
                                                                                                   (#145829 $9 for 40)
using some scraps from the Year of Cheer Designer Series Paper (#144640 #13.00)
This will be perfect to add to the ornament in the box when I dress up the outside.
What a nice Christmas gift!

A Special Gift

I just finished this as a special gift for a very special friend.
Eight of our new Treat Tubes
                     (#144613 $5 for12)
fit perfectly into our new Acetate Card Boxes
                     (#144628 $6.59 for 10)
I've filled the tubes with all kinds of things to
add to hot chocolate or Christmas baking.
Then I decorated the box with our new
                      7/8" Striped Ribbon
                       (#144624 $5 for 5 yards)
                       Mini Ornaments
                       (#144626 $7.50 for 8)
                        Green Sprigs
                        (144627 $5 for 12)
Also, be sure to check out the front of the box. I have embossed it with our new Winter Wonder Embossing Folder (#144686 $7.50)
All of these supplies are available to order online on my website or you may contract me directly.
The current Hostess Code is #4MWKUBU

Were you at Card Buffet??

Hi All

I'm finally getting my life back together after a CRAZY three and a half weeks.
During that time, one of the things I had going on was my third Card Buffet. We all had a great time, but
I was so busy and distracted that I forgot to take a single picture.

So...Instead of showing you pictures of the event itself, I thought I'd show you just two of the cards you missed creating if you didn't attend.

If you like them and the event sounds fun to you, I hope you'll consider coming to the next one which will be sometime in
                                                               January.
Watch for more info to come.

Hurricane Relief

This post is to let all of you know what Stampin Up is doing in an effort to help those hit by the devastating hurricanes.
If you are attending the Card Buffet and would like to make a donation, I will accept donations that day and forward them on to Stampin Up. If you are not signed up for the Buffet and would like to stop by, look at some samples of new product and make a donation, please feel free to drop in at 164 Hubbard Street, at Branches Community Church any time between 11am and 4pm.
You may also donate directly by following the link in this email.
This is purely voluntary on your part. I just wanted to get the word out there since it's a way to help and be able to double your donation. I can only imagine what these people are up against.

In This, We Make a Difference

SU_HurricaneRelief Along with many of you, we are watching with concern as stories unfold about the devastation left behind in Texas and Louisiana by Hurricane and Tropical Storm Harvey. Though no one knows how many lives have been affected, Harvey is said to be one of the worst natural disasters in U.S. history, and the damage caused by massive flooding will be felt for years to come.
With you, we’re also trying to stay informed on the progress of Hurricane Irma; as we write this, Irma has not yet made landfall but is currently classified as a catastrophic Category 5 storm. It will almost certainly leave as much destruction in its wake as Hurricane Harvey and will affect the lives of tens of thousands of people.
As a Stampin’ Up! family, we invite you to help us give to those who are now (or will soon be) trying to rebuild their lives. From now until the end of October, Stampin’ Up! will match donations made to the American Red Cross, dollar-for-dollar, for up to $50,000. Please click here to donate.
The Stampin’ Up! community is already making a difference through ongoing hurricane relief efforts. Here are some ways people are raising money.
  • Demonstrators are donating a portion of their commissions.
  • Demonstrators are holding dedicated events, including retired product sales, where all proceeds are being donated to hurricane relief.
  • Customers are being invited to donate at events.
  • Demonstrators are selling unused cards or are mounting past swaps on card bases and selling them (in accordance with the Angel Policy) to raise hurricane relief funds.
If you’re a Stampin’ Up! customer and would like to help, reach out to your demonstrator and see if they are holding any fundraising events you can be a part of, or click here to donate to the American Red Cross.
Together, we can do incredible things! We hope you’ll join us . . . because we truly can make a difference.

Card Buffet

Hi All

I'm deep into preparing kits for the upcoming Buffet on the 23rd of this month.
The giant bag shown in the picture here is full of prizes...and they are just the prizes for the crazy drawings! It is so full that I couldn't even squeeze that last one on the top into the bag....and I'm still working on a few more.
We're going to have so much fun!

Everyone signed up will automatically get one ticket for each drawing and those of you who signed up and paid before August 25th will get four more tickets for the crazy drawings. There will be more ways to earn extra tickets that day. You can earn an extra ticket for the regular drawing by bringing something for our church food bank. There are so many crazy prizes that I am going to also offer tickets for sale for those drawings. They will be $1 each or 6 for $5 and I will be adding that money to my churches offering box the next day to give them a little blessing for so kindly allowing me to hold these events there.

I am making a limited number of kits and at this point there are only 3 spots left, so if you've been on the fence about coming it's time to jump off....and to help you get going, the very first one who contacts me to take one of those 3 remaining spots will receive and extra two tickets for those crazy drawings.

Believe me, there is a lot of stuff in those crazy bags. once you open them up and find out what's inside, you can trade with each other, give stuff away, or keep some new treasures for your stash. There will also be a box for us to put anything that nobody wants, and all of that will be donated to The Continuuim here in Reno after the event. They offer an adult day care program specializing in care for adults living with Altzeimer's disease, Dementia, traumatic brain injuries, stroke recovery, Parkinson's disease, and M.S. The time away while they're busy there offers caregivers a much needed break. The things we give them will be help out with their craft supplies.

That's it...It's back to work for me!

Shake It Up Baby!

Today was the Hen Party for the month of August and we had a wonderful time.
We made the Happy Birthday shaker card shown here.
The monster cards are some of the other ones I made.
We used Silica Gel beads for an unusual way to make the insides of the shaker.
I got the brilliant idea from my friend Rae.
Two of my friends came who hadn't joined us before and we all made a brand new friend.
Welcome Lorraine!!
I ended up serving peach pie instead of the cherry muffins, but it was delicious so nobody minded.

Next month's Hen Party is On September 1st.
We will be making a card using a simple technique with an impressing result.
Some of you may have done this before, but I think you'll enjoy making the card...
And the food and the visiting....That's the best part!

Monday night is the drop in class with a theme of fruit and flowers.
I will make the cherry muffins for this class.
Promise....cross my heart.

Don't forget the Magic Fun Fold class coming up on August 17th.
These cards are really fun!

The drop in class is only $15 and the Magic Fun Fold class $20.
You need to sign up in advance for that one. It takes quite a bit preparation.
